Bert John Maijala

Mr. Bert John (Pertti Juhani) Maijala, age 65 years, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospital with his loving family by his side on Saturday, January 30, 2016.

Bert was born in Saloinen, Finland on December 5, 1950, the son of Johan and Rauha Maijala. He immigrated to Canada with his family in April 1956.

Growing up in Port Arthur was where he met his high school sweetheart and lifelong best friend Deborah Gustafson, whom he married on August 18, 1973.

Bert enjoyed traveling, fishing with his son, golfing, watching hockey and baseball, especially his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. He worked for many years at the Chronicle Journal before moving to Integris Metals and lastly to Intercity Industrial Supply from where he retired.

He enjoyed backyard parties with friends and neighbours. Bert's greatest joy came from time spent with his family and being a grandfather was a job that he loved dearly.

He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife Debbie, son Jamie (Erin), granddaughters Aida-Lee and Seija, his mother Rauha Maijala, sisters Hannele Maijala-Inman and Elis
