Betty Ann Sylvester
(1944-2016)
Betty Ann Sylvester passed on December 6, 2016 with friends and family by her side at Lakehead Manor. She was born on January 17, 1944 in Winnipeg Manitoba.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Dennis Sylvester and survived by her three sons Brent, Sean and Chris, their wives and children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Growing up in Winnipeg, Betty was very active in sports including track and field, ice skating and playing ball.
At the age of eighteen she met the love of her life in Graham Ontario of all places, while on a family fishing trip. Dennis was a radio operator at what was then an airport and landing strip. Their time in Graham began a lifetime affection for the wilderness.
She was a lethal shot with a rifle and loved to fish. Patent red hair and a green thumb, Betty always kept a beautiful home and loved to cook. She was always busy with one enterprise or another but most notably as a hair stylist.
As a part of her styling business Betty would make her rounds amongst Thunder Bay's homes for the aged and would always bring her brand of sunshine to brighten the lives of the residents.
Later in life Betty picked up the brush and lovingly shared her view of the world through painting. Shortly after building their dream home on Lake Superior, Betty lost Dennis to a tragic accident. After that she made camp at Pass Lake and with a kayak and her dog Scruffy in tow, explored the lakes and waterways of Northwestern Ontario. Betty will be sadly missed by all who loved her and will celebrate her life on Monday December 12, 2016 at the Blake Funeral Chapel.
Visitation will be at 12:00pm with services at 1:00pm. A reception will follow, also at Blake's, for all to share stories and fellowship.
Betty Sylvester will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
