Brenda Almquist
Mrs. Brenda Almquist (nee Broad), age 73 years, entered into the presence of her Lord on Monday, December 21, 2020, in St. Joseph's Hospice with family by her side.

Brenda was born September 19, 1947 in Port Arthur Ontario, and lived her life in Thunder Bay. She worked for many years as a chambermaid at the Prince Arthur Hotel, leaving briefly to obtain her training and then work as a nurses' aide at various homes in the city.

Mom's greatest accomplishments were marrying the love of her life, Louis Almquist; becoming a stay-at-home mother; and raising their 3 children. She was a great cook, and loved to bake, often making batches of perogies, cabbage rolls, and goodies with her siblings.

Mom loved being with her grandchildren whenever the moment would arise. She loved to call all of her family, relatives and friends, and keep them up to date on all the current events.

She loved Elvis Presley music and was a collector of his memorabilia. Probably one of the many reasons she married Dad was because he resembled him in his younger days, and could “shake his pelvis like Elvis”.

Before her passing, Mom was a longtime resident of Southbridge Roseview. Thank you to all the Roseview staff for all your care and compassion for Mom. We would also like to thank the staff at TBRHSC and the wonderful care our family and Mom received in St. Joseph's Hospice.

Thank you to Everest Funeral Chapel for their compassion in arranging Mom's service during these difficult times. Thank you to all our friends and family for your support.

Brenda left behind 2 daughters, Katrena (Sean), and MaeLynn (Curtis); son Louis (Alex); grand-children Ben, Aleia, Isaac, Dougie, Shane, Ezra, Larz, and one on the way. Also survived by brothers Gordie and Eddie (Jessie); sister Debbie (Stan); and sisters-in-law Doreen, Jackie (Lloyd), Betty (Lee), Ella Mae (Francis), and Rena. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.

Predeceased by her husband Louis Almquist Sr.; parents, Helmer and Regina Broad; parents-in-law Louis and Mae Almquist, and Uno Paaka; sister Linda Larocque, and brother Gary (Bev) Broad.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Funeral Services for Brenda Almquist will be private in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, with Fr. Antoni Fujarczuk officiating. Interment to follow in St. Andrew's R.C. Cemetery. The funeral service will be available on the Everest website after Wednesday, December 30, 2020.

At a later date, the family will hold a celebration in honour of Mom.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Dew Drop Inn, or the charity of your choice.
