It is with deep sorrow that the family of Brian Ronald Hicks announces his sudden passing on June 4, 2018, at the age of 74 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Brian was born in Fort William, on May 31, 1944 and spent his early days in Westfort. He attended Heath Park, FWCI and college in Bemidji, and upon returning to Thunder Bay completed his Education degree. He was employed with Lakehead Public Schools as a classroom and Special Education teacher for over 30 years before retiring in 1999. Afterwards, Brian continued teaching a computer skills course at the 55 Plus Centre.
Brian married his loving wife Nancy Pattyson on November 19, 1983 and enjoyed a wonderful life together until his passing. Brian loved boating and sailing to the Red Rock Folk Festival with his friends. Most of all he appreciated the simple things listening to his favorite songs, time with family, friends and neighbours.
Left to mourn Brian’s passing is his wife of 34 years Nancy and his mother Jean Stewart, children Kevin (Julie) Hicks, Karin Wickenhauser, step brother William (Eleanor) Hicks, grandchildren Michael, Brady, Luke. Brother in law Doug (Barb) Pattyson, sister in law Cheryl (Jordi) Adams and their children Chelsea (Michael) Fraser, Chantal (Robby) and Jordan Adams. He will also be sadly missed by Gemma the family dog he adored.
Predeceased by father William Ronald Hicks. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the paramedics, emergency room staff, surgeons and nurses who all assisted with Brian’s care. Your compassion and support was truly wonderful during such a difficult time.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday June 25, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at First Wesley United Church with Rev. Dexter Van Dyke officiating. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
