Carl Frederik Henny, age 89 years, of Hogarth-Riverview Manor, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016.

Carl was born on March 15, 1926 in Huizen, The Netherlands. He was educated in The Netherlands and earned various diplomas from The Royal Institute of Engineering Technology and the Netherlands Radio Corporation.

He was employed at the Dutch Radio Broadcasting Corporation for seventeen years. Carl emigrated from Holland to Mississauga, Ontario, Canada in August 1964 with his wife, Ann, and 3 of his 4 children, Carl, Anneke, and Martin.

His 4th child, Bridget, was born in Canada a few years later. In Canada, he was employed with CBC Toronto and Pathe Humphries, a well-known film production house. Carl started employment with Confederation College, in Thunder Bay, in 1969, where he worked as the Head of the Audio Visual Department until his retirement in 1991.

Carl and Ann also owned and operated Dog Lake Resort from 1970 to 1986.  Carl enjoyed his retirement spending his time at his cottage on Lake Superior and traveling annually to Arizona in the winter.

As a younger man, he was an avid dancer and sailor, and later enjoyed fishing, going for drives, and camping. Carl is survived by his wife, of 67 years, Ann Henny (nee Teenstra);  his children Carl (Jean), Anneke (Roger), Martin (Theresa), and Bridget (Paul); his grandchildren Fred, Wendy, Travis, Marlies, Chantelle, Nick, Danielle, Matt, Brandi Jo, and Jade; and his 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Carel; his sisters, Rie and Lies; and his great grandchild, Hilo.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster United Church, at 650 River Street, in Thunder Bay, with Pastor Susan Ivany officiating.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

The family would like to thank the staff at 2N Dawson Court and 2N Hogarth-Riverview Manor for their excellent and compassionate care of our father.

Carl Henny will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
