Carla Grace Borton
June 19, 1958 - January 6, 2015

In the late spring of 1958 at Mckellar General Hospital a sunny spirit arrived into the Borton family in the life of Carla Grace. She joined her parents, Ruth Dahlin Borton and Allan Borton and older sisters, Sandra and Diane.

Carla attracted friends like bees to honey and from the time she was a little girl there were always lots of friends and this continued all of her life.

Tap dancing was replaced by horses when the family moved to west Arthur street. Lolly, her overweight hackney pony was ridden all over the area. Horses were joined by boys as Carla's interests when she became a teenager.

After graduating from Westgate, Carla moved on to Confederation College where she completed the Interior Design course.

Marriage soon followed and Carla's dream of creating a family was achieved with the births of Bradley first and then Mitchell.

She played girls softball as a teenager and then mixed slow pitch as an adult. She loved to curl and golf. Her sports always included a very social aspect.

She competed in equestrian events, slow pitch, curling, golf and even the Canadian Transplant Games in Edmonton in 2006.

Carla always loved taking craft and art classes with her friends starting with ceramics, with her best friend Patti, which launched into a whole series of creative activities - gardening, mosaics, rug hooking, quilting, journaling, junktiquing, watercolours, felting, the list goes on and on. There wasn't much that Carla put her hand to that she didn't excel. Family and friends were most blessed when they received something that Carla created, for it had a bit of her in it.

Her work career included the family business, Lakehead Wholesalers, and following additional training in autocad drafting, she began working at Bombardier as a draftsman progressing to management before having to leave because of illness. She formed many lasting friendships with her coworkers. The family was very touched to see the Bombardier flags flying at half mast this week in her honour.

She was predeceased by her parents in 1987 and 1988 and her best friend and biggest support, Patti Anderson, in June of 2014.

Besides her sons, Bradley Romeo (Amory Thiel) and Mitchell Romeo (Laura La Via) and sisters, Sandra Rankin (Bill) and Diane Borton, she will always be the much loved Auntie Carla (AC) to Cameron Girvin (Angie), Shaun Girvin (Jessica), Meghan Girvin, Kyley Rankin-Donaldson (Lyle), Lindsay Rankin (Rex Lavado), Amy McCart (Dan), and Katie Girvin; goddaughter Carolyn Anderson Gagnon; and grand nephews and grand nieces, Nathan and Nash Girvin, Norah Burns, Madisen and Sara Donaldson, Tate Lavado and Georgia McCart. Her grand-dogs, Akira, Daisy, and Juliette will also miss the walks that she looked so forward to giving them.

Carla was a woman of great courage living life to the fullest and never letting her illness define her.

Funeral Mass for the late Carla Borton will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 2:00PM in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Norbert Eyule. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Carla served as a Provincial Volunteer Committee Member for the Trillium Gift of Life Network. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Trillium Gift of Life Network at www.giftoflife.on.ca and ultimately to register as an organ donor.
