Carlos Da Rocha Sr, died peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor Sunday, July 16, 2017.

Carlos was born May 22, 1930 in Santa Cruz Lagoa, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. He came to Canada in 1957 to work with CN Rail in BC, finally settling in Winnipeg when his family joined him in Canada in 1960. He was very involved in the Portuguese community both with his Church – Immaculate Conception and the Banda Lira de Fatima. He was an avid gardener, spending hours in the backyard tending to his vegetables and flowers.

In 2005 he moved to Thunder Bay to live with his son and family, where he continued his gardening and was a member of the Portuguese Association of Thunder Bay.

Carlos is lovingly remembered by his son, Carlos Da Rocha and wife Maureen Brophy, Thunder Bay; daughter, Anna and husband Monty Johnston, Edmonton; grand-daughters Jordan Marie Foster (Adrian Plante), Kathleen Johnston and great grand-daughter Kyrie Plante; as well as nieces and nephews in Canada and Portugal.

He was predeceased by his wife Valentina, parents, Antonio and Maria do Sacramento Da Rocha, sister in law Clementina Tavares, as well as 4 sisters and 4 brothers. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 when family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony's Church at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Interment will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 20th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sargent and Son Funeral Home with prayers to commence at 7:00 p.m.

If friends desire, memorials to St. Joseph's Foundation of Thunder Bay or the Portuguese Association of Thunder Bay would be appreciated.
