Mr. Carmelo Mancuso, age 84 years, passed away peacefully at his home with his family around him
Carmelo was born in Solano, Reggio Calabria Italy. He and his family immigrated to Thunder Bay in 1970. He worked for Headway Contracting as a labourer, and later joined Northern Wood Preservatives until he retired in 1996.
Carmelo was a long time member of the Italian Cultural Society. His hobbies included mushroom picking and making sausages for his family and friends. But his most cherished hobby was his garden and tended to it with pride.
Carmelo will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Domenica of 63 years, his daughters Giovanna (Leo Notarbartolo), Grace (Jim Ward), Dominic Mancuso (Nancy Rikkonen), and Rocco Mancuso(Debbie). Carmelo also leaves behind his precious grandchildren, Paolo (Emily) Notarbartolo, Carmelo (Sheri) Notarbartolo, Antonio (Agnes) Notarbartolo, Domenica Ward (fiancée Lundy Thurier), James Ward (fiancée Courtney Mima), David Mancuso (Shannon), Carmen Mancuso, Angelia Mancuso, Niko Mancuso and Francesca Mancuso. Also his step grandchildren Steven Rikkonen and Jason Stasiw.
Great grandchildren include, Leonardo, Angelica, Alessio, Bianca, Maddox, Nathan, Liam and Olivia.
Carmelo was predeceased by his parents, his sister Maria in Italy, mother-in-law Grazia, father-in-law Domenico Vita, brother-in-law Giovanni Vita and nephew Rocco Vita, niece Grace Bylund Vita and nephew Michael Vita.
Visitation will take place on Sunday April 24, 2016 between 6:00 -8:00pm with prayer service at 7:00pm at Harbourview Funeral Centre at 499 N. Cumberland Street. The funeral mass is at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Monday April 25, 2016 at 10:30 am., with the procession leaving Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10 am. This will be followed by a private burial at St. Andrews Cemetery. The funeral will be followed by a reception at Harbourview Funeral Centre.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Cancer Society or St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
