Boer Carolin new

Carolin Boer passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 11, 2017.   Carolin was born on November 7, 1965 in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, to parents Ronald and Violet Baglien.

She was the middle of 6 children plus a half sister.   Carolin attended elementary schools in both Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay. She attended Hillcrest High School in Thunder Bay from 1980 – 1983.  In 1983 Carolin joined the 736 Communications Squadron, taking her basic training during SYEP at the Port Arthur Armories. It was here that she met her future husband, David Boer.   Carolin and David were married on February 25, 1984 and children soon followed; David Allen Dirk was born on July 26, 1984, Kathryn Violet on November 4, 1985, Aaron Ronald on April 3, 1987. Aaron passed away on June 17, 1987 of SIDS. Jennifer Skye was born on November 7, 1988.  Carolin loved her children with all her heart and soul. Being a mother to her children was one of the greatest joys of her life and she was extremely proud of them and involved in their lives. She was very family oriented and always put her family, especially her children, first. She also loved her parents and siblings deeply.

After her children started school, Carolin worked at Robin’s Donuts for about 2 years, she had quit the Reserves when her children were born so that she could concentrate on them, then Neos Products for a number of years until she suffered an injury.   Carolin did quite a bit of volunteering when her children were young such as being a GEMS counselor at Hope CRC, running Vacation Bible School for a couple of years as well as taking care of the bulletin for the church for awhile. She also volunteered at Twice as Nice, helping to support the Thunder Bay Christian Schools.

Carolin liked to try new things and was an avid hunter, fisherwoman, scuba diver (in the tropics), and she also liked to ski occasionally. She was a fabulous cook, which she liked to do; she would watch the Food Channel a lot and then would recreate the recipes that she liked, at home, with great success.   After her mother-in-law passed away, Carolin saw that her father-in-law Jake Boer needed help, so she and David moved to the country to take care of him. She was the primary care giver for him which she enjoyed doing as both she and Jake were passionate gardeners, especially with garlic which they sold at the Farmers Market and Hymers Fair. Helping people was a part of Carolin’s nature; if you needed help, she would be there.

Carolin was married to David for almost 34 years, she was not just his wife she was also his partner and best friend. She was there for the good times and the bad. When things were good, she would celebrate and when things were tough she would always say “Don’t worry, we’ll get through this.” and she was right. David loved her deeply from the time they started dating; their love never waned over the course of their marriage. Carolin was everything that he could ever wish for. Not only as a partner but also as a mother and a friend and companion. Carolin was loved by everyone that knew her, especially her sisters, brother and in-laws. She was a truly caring and beautiful person and it shone through brightly.

Carolin is survived by her husband David, children David Boer Jr. (Ivy), Kathryn Maggrah (Gerry), and Jennifer Boer (Andrew), as well as her sisters Charlotte, Rohnda (Scott), Lee (Albert) and her brother Ronald. She is also survived by her mother Violet Baglien and her father-in-law Jake Boer plus her brothers-in-law Jacob Boer (Joyce), Richard Boer (Deborah) and sister-in-law Theresa (John).

She is also survived by a large extended family both here and in Sault Ste Marie as well as out West and the GTA and Quebec.  Carolin was predeceased by her son Aaron, her father Ronald, her sister Bonnie, her mother-in-law Kathleen and her sister-in-law Toni.  Visitation will be Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 7-9 pm at Hope Christian Reformed Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11 am at Hope Christian Reformed Church, followed by interment at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SIDS Foundation.
