Mr. Casimiro DiCasmirro, age 92 years, passed away peacefully in the hospice unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Thursday, December 1st, 2016 with his loving family by his side.  With many health challenges over the last few years, Casimiro continued to live life to the fullest.

Born in Arsita, province of Teramo, Italy on July 17, 1924. He immigrated to Canada in 1950, following an older brother Alfredo, in pursuit of a better life in Canada.  Soon after, they were joined by another brother Attilio in 1954.

Casimiro worked at various jobs once in Thunder Bay, starting with the grain elevators, St. Joseph’s Hospital as an orderly and settling at the Provincial Paper Mill, until his retirement in 1989, with 27 years of service.

He was a member of the Italian Society of Port Arthur and an active member of the senior’s club at St. Anthony’s Church.

Casimiro enjoyed his garden, wine making and sausage making.  He enjoyed spending time with his many friends, playing cards and bocci, but especially loved time with his family and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Casimiro is survived by his wife of 63 years, Argentina, and three sisters in Italy, Assunta, Alessendria and Franceschina. Also surviving are his children; son Robert, wife Linda, their children Nathan (Sabrina) and Nikki (Josh) and grandchildren Gianna, Charlize “Charley”, and Cazimiro “Caz”; daughter Angela, her husband Seppo, their children Derek (Jason), Mark and Daniel (Nicole) and grandchildren Braydon, and Jayce; son Frank, children Karen (Jonathon), and Diana, their mother Carol and grandchildren Madelynn and Rylan; son John, his wife Jenny, and their children Anthony, Christian, and Isabella.

He is predeceased by his parents Silvestro and Maria, Donato in infancy, Angelo (1998), Attilio (2001) and Alfredo (2002).

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 a.m. to St. Anthony’s R. C. Church, 123 Hilldale Road, for the Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini beginning at 11:00 a.m. 

Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew’s Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, where the Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. 

If friends so desire, donations to may be made in Casimiro’s name to St. Joseph’s Hospice Unit, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
