It is with great sadness but comforted in the knowledge of life everlasting that the family of Catherine (Kay) MacDonald announces her passing.
Catherine (nee Quigley) was born at Milligans in Roslea, County Fermanagh Northern Ireland on April 27, 1922. She was the daughter of Luke and Margaret Quigley and one of eleven sibling. Catherine was united in marriage on June 29th,1957 to Philip MacDonald.
Catherine is survived by her daughter Anne Marie (Ted) Fitzgerald, her grandchildren Brendan (Val) Fitzgerald, Erin (Dave) Penstone, Sarah (Myles) Kuharski, Mary (Hamish), Ellen and Caitlin (CJ) Fitzgerald, her great-grandchildren, Desmond and Nora Kuharski, Blake, Larken and Declan MacDonald, and Margot Robertson, many loving nieces and nephews, here in Canada, the US, Ireland, England and Scotland. She loved their visits and her trips to see them. Catherine is also survived by her sister-inlaw Lorraine. Catherine is predeceased by her husband Philip, her son Peter, her brothers Peter, Charley, Johnny, Luke (Rose), Mickey (Peggy), and Jimmy, sisters Mary Ellen (Dan), Margaret, Sarah (Felix) and Annie (Charley), Brothers-in-law Francie, Arnold, Ewen and sister-in-law Isabel (Donald).
Catherine, better known as Kay or Kitty lived a very full life which took her from her village in Ireland to England for her registered nursing and midwifery training at St. Lukes Hospital to St. Catherines, Ontario where she worked at the Hotel Dieu Hospital. She was a skilled and dedicated nurse and midwife who touched many lives. St Catherines was also where she met and married her husband Philip. Together they settled in London, Ontario where they spent their lives, raised their family and made many good and true friends. Catherine was a longtime member of St. Michaels parish in London and a member of the CWL. Her last years were spent in Fort Frances and Thunder Bay, Ontario. In Thunder Bay she resided at Chartwell Glacier Ridge where she spent her last year making new friends and loving her little apartment. Kay’s family wishes to thank the marvelous staff at Glacier Ridge Thunder Bay for their deep caring and compassion. They well be remembered fondly by Kay’s family. She was a joyful grandmother who took great interest in all of her grandchildren and what they were up to. They all loved her very much in return. The highlight of her recent years was becoming a great-grandmother. Reaching the age of 97, she must have marveled at the way the world changed in her lifetime.
Mass of the Resurrection will take place on Friday March 13, 2020 at 10:30am at Corpus Christi Parish, Thunder Bay with Fr. Victor DeGagne presiding. Memorial donations may be made to Shelter House Thunder Bay or the Heart and Stroke Fund
