Ceremonial sacred fire

A sacred fire will be lit in our dedicated Sacred Fire Space at Jenkens Funeral Home in honour of the 215 children whose lives were taken at the former Kamloops residential school and all Indigenous children who never made it home, the survivors, and their families.

These discoveries serve as a stark reminder of the historical racial treatment of our Indigenous communities, and there is still work to be done to eliminate social inequities.

The fire will be lit on Friday, June 4 at 6 p.m. with ceremonial drumming by Beatrice Hynes. The fire will remain lit for 24-hours. We welcome the community to join us for the ceremony, pay respects and reflect, while staying two metres apart.
