It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Clara Maki (Kiiskila), age 94 years on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 in the TBRHSC.
Clara was born on August 12, 1921 in Port Arthur, Ont. Her early years were spent on the family farm with her pioneering parents, Alfred and Ida Kiiskila that operated a dairy farm. Clara met and married the love of her life Bill Maki in 1945. Together they raised two children. She was a lifelong member of the Bethel Lutheran Church where she sang with the choir for many years. She took pride in the joys of being a member of the Hill City Women’s Curling Club and enjoyed watching the national and international bonspiels. Clara had a special relationship with her sisters and enjoyed spending time with them at her camp at Grandview Beach.
Clara will be lovingly missed by daughter Diane (Gary) Visseau, as well as nieces and nephews.
Clara was predeceased by husband Bill (1980), son Orrin (2008), sisters Elsie (Robert Dickson), Annie (Bill Toivonen), Louise (Neil Blacklock), Sylvia (Albert) Jacobsen, brother Eino (Hilma), Arne (Laimi), Einar (Aili and Edna) as well as her parents.
A celebration of Clara’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 264 Wilson Street with Pastor Jamie Bosma officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel Lutheran Church, TBRHSC Foundation or to the Charity of your Choice. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com
