Clara McCartney

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Clara (Sis) May McCartney announce her peaceful passing in the early morning of Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at St. Joseph's Hospice at age 99. Mom lived in the family home on Burriss Street for 69 years and for the past eight years resided at Jasper Place.

Mom was born on September 16, 1919 in Port Arthur to George and Giles Rickard and attended local schools. She was married on June 10th, 1939 to John (Bud) McCartney and together they raised four children.

Clara was a member of Lakeview Presbyterian Church, past active member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 1212 and also of the Port Arthur Legion Branch 5. She formerly worked at Lakeview High School, Dawson Court and W. J. Griffis Childrens' Centre as a cook until her retirement.

Clara was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her many talents included baking, decorating wedding cakes, gardening and was famous for her many knitted gifts which are cherished. She was a humble, gentle woman who was truly loved and treasured.

Clara is survived by her daughters, Mary Jean Larocque, Barbara (Vlado) Kruzick and Carol Klukie. She is also survived by her grandchildren Shelley, Michael, Patrick, Greg, Steven, Korinne, Mark, David, Daniel, Melissa, their spouses and 16 great grandchildren. She was Aunt Sis to numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, husband Bud, son David, grandson Josh Klukie, sons-in-law George Larocque and Reg Klukie and also sister Mary(John) Beaucage, brothers John (Dorothy) and Jim (Esther) Rickard, brother-in-law Jim (Rose) McCartney, sister-in-law Jean (Arne) Malo and her mother-in-law Sarah McCartney who she dearly loved.

Services for Mom will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 North Court Street followed by interment in Riverside Cemetery.
