Claraine Cavner

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claraine Cavner, age 81, resident of Thunder Bay, on Saturday, January 31, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Claraine was born October 8, 1933 in Fort William.  She married her roller-skating partner Harold on October 7, 1954 and was thrilled to recently celebrate their 60th anniversary.  Together they raised 4 children in Thunder Bay. 

She worked for 28yrs at Confederation College, retiring in 1998.  She and Harold became snowbirds wintering in Texas for 20yrs.  Having lived in several homes over the years, her favourite homes were in Rosslyn and then their summer home of 35yrs on the lake near Atikokan. 

She was involved for many years with the Boy Scouts, progressing from cub leader to district staff.  Her favourite past times in retirement were creating beautiful quilts for her family and sharing new card games with family and friends. 

Survived by her beloved husband Harold, daughter Michele (Carl) Krasnichuk, Thunder Bay, sons: Patrick, Plainfield IL, Jim (Anne Marie) and Bill, Thunder Bay, grandchildren: Rory(Irene), Sean, Jessica, Joshua, Courtney (Jim), Shamus (Kayla), Christopher, Victoria, Alexandra, Wynter, Eric, Bryce, and 3 great grandchildren; Emily, R.J, and Mackenzie, Siblings: Patrick (Ruth) Flanagan, Kathleen (Ronny) Slongo, Bettijane Flanagan, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive. 

Predeceased by parents Florence (Elvish) and Patrick Flanagan and sister Marguerite Mary McDonald and mother in law Anne Cavner. 

Cremation has taken place with funeral mass being celebrated at St. Agnes Church (corner of Brown and Mary Streets) on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 12:10pm. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Society of the Little Flower or the charity of your choice.
