With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Curtis MacLaurin on May 27, 2018 at the age of 40. Curtis was a member of Fort William First Nation and lived the majority of his life on the reserve. After attending St. Patrick’s High School, he held jobs in the fields of hydro, forestry, pipeline and general construction in Ontario and Alberta.
Curtis loved his family deeply, especially his children. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors in nature, hunting and anything that involved getting his hands dirty. Curtis had a huge heart, was extremely caring, and would always be eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Curtis was a free spirit who lived by his own rules and carved his own path.
Survived by wife, Maranda Martinkus and children Karolyn, Kamryn, Karter, and Kael; Uncle Timothy Ward and Aunt Marilyn MacLaurin; brother, Christopher MacLaurin (Ginger) and children, Serena, Savannah, and Corbin; brother, Jamie Blackhawk; sister, Liana Viens; sister Jolene Banning (Larry) and children, Kyle and Amber Anderson; Father Paul Myles Pervais (Annelen); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and so many loved ones.
Predeceased by Mother, Carolyn MacLaurin; grandparents, William and Marilyn MacLaurin; and grandparents, Sam and Margaret Pervais.
A prayer vigil will be held at St. Anne’s Church on Mission Road at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018. Mass will be at St. Anne’s Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, celebrated by Rev. Larry Kroker s.j. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
Curtis MacLaurin will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
