Absent from the body. Present with the Lord.
Mr. Daniel E. Baxter, age 73 years, passed away peacefully on November 13th, 2022, in St. Joseph’s Hospice with family holding his hands.
Dan was born on April 23rd, 1949 in Scarborough, Ontario and lived a full life, working in many industries. He retired from the Roads Dept at the City of Thunder Bay but continued working and enjoying the time spent with colleagues until very recently. His most recent employment was with Canada Post. Alongside his wife, Dan provided a loving foster home to many children for decades. Dan had a strong faith in God and was a passionate and involved member of his church. He loved to share his faith with others, to point people to Christ and he loved to sing about his faith. These were some of the very strong giftings he was given. Dan loved people and showed kindness and compassion to everyone he met.
Many will grieve his passing and await a happy reunion someday. This includes his wife, Teri; children, Julie (Corey), Tammy (Weston), Bill (Jenna), Dave, Keith and Brian; special boys, Cedar and Cree; 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Barb), sisters Lee (Frank) and Becky (Glen) as well as dozens of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Dan was predeceased by his great-nieces Samara and Mya, his great-nephew Mitchell, his parents Bert and Lenora, his sister Cyndy, his son David, his niece Cynthia and his brother Dave, who was also his best friend.
The family of Dan would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Emerg dept. and 1A at Thunder Bay Regional and the staff of 4 North at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their attentiveness, kindness and care during Dan’s final days; the members of Lakehead Baptist for their words of encouragement, prayers and meals provided and the staff at Harbourview Funeral Centre for their assistance in planning a meaningful service for Dan.
Funeral Services for Dan will be held at Lakehead Baptist Church, 1314 Oliver Road on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3200 Oliver Road. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Friday, November 18th from 6:00-8:00 pm. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed live at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to Lakehead Baptist Church’s pavilion fund, a project which Dan so desired to take part in building but was unable to help with due to his health.
