Mr. Daniel (Danylo) Myhal, age 68 years, resident of Lappe Ontario, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday March 6th, 2024. Born on December 28, 1955, in Fort William Ontario. He was a long time employee for the City of Thunder Bay, Infrastructure and Operation-Parks North division, until his recent retirement in 2021.

Danylo was an integral part of the Ukrainian community in Thunder Bay and was an active member in the League of Ukrainian Canadians and the Zhuravli Ukrainian Folk Ensemble.

Danylo’s vibrant spirit, unwavering patriotism, and enduring love for Ukrainian culture touched the hearts of all who knew him. From his memorable act of courage during the 1976 Olympics in Montreal to his lifelong dedication to promoting freedom for Ukraine, Danylo's legacy will forever be etched in our hearts and history. The flag he bravely waved now flies proudly in Kyiv, a testament to his undying dream for Ukraine.

Danylo is survived by his sister, Stephanie Nyznyk, sister-in-law, Jennifer Kernohan. Nieces and nephews, Andrea Walker, Michael Nyznyk, Nadia Myhal and Lukas, Jacob and Benjamin Myhal. Great neices and nephews, Ryan and Alex Walker and Eleanor, Madeline and Josephine DePaola. He is also survived by his dear friend Arseniy Vizniy and many more cousins and special friends.

Danylo is predeceased by his parents, Dr. Bohdan Myhal and Mrs. Victoria Balabuck-Myhal and his brothers, Roman and Andrew Myhal.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday March 26, 2024 at 10am at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Transfiguration. A reception will follow immediately after at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Cross.
