It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darlene Albertine Frost (Stenlund) on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at her residence in Roseview Manor at the age of 68, following a long courageous battle with cancer.

Darlene was the daughter of Fritz and Alice Stenlund.  She attended Port Arthur schools.  On July 16, 1966 Darlene married her best friend Dave Frost.  In 1973 she went to work at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital, in a number of departments.  Due to ill health, she had to take long-term sick leave in late 1999, retiring officially in 2007.

Dave and Darlene enjoyed their many trips to Country Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin with friends.  For a short time, they did some camping at White Fish Resort.  Her greatest joys in life were welcoming their sons Christopher (January 1967) and Richard (November 1971) as well as the arrival of their granddaughters.  Many hours were spent loving and spoiling them; her fondest memory was the family trip to Disney in 2003.  Her passions were arts and crafts, and making homemade pies and tarts that had a secret ingredient.

The worst tragedy struck in May 2005 when Dave passed away.  She was devastated and never quite got over it.

Darlene is survived by her son Richard “Rick” (Veronique “Vero”), grandchildren Crystal and Teagan Frost, and Annabel and Julianne Nichols.  She also leaves behind special extended family Yoland Desrosiers and Chantal Lavoie, Jason and Caroline Winters, and Vanessa Lavoie-Desrosiers with Lucas and Timothy.  Immediate family also include her brother Gerald (Joanne) Stenlund and family, sister-in-law Pat (Walter) Tkachyk and family, and brother-in-law Michael (Linda) Dillon and family.  A special surviving family member is Darlene’s great niece “Miss Chloe”, love you baby!  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Darlene is predeceased by husband Dave, son Christopher, 2 children in infancy Gregory and Baby, parents Fritz and Alice Stenlund, in-laws Herbert Frost and Ruth Dillon, and brother-in-law Edward Frost.

A big thank you to the staff of CCAC for the excellent home care, all the wonderful caretakers at St. Joseph's Hospital - Hospice Unit and 4 North, and to the staff of Roseview for assisting Darlene and her family through the most difficult of times.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Darlene’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will take place with immediate family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Darlene’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
