It is with great sadness the family of Dave Kennedy, age 75 years, announces his passing on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at St. Joseph's Hospice after a hard fought 10 year battle with cancer.

Dave was a lifetime resident of Thunder Bay, and before retiring in 1997, he was employed at Great Lakes Paper for almost 40 years. Being a proud member of Local 39, where he served on the Executive, he formed lifelong friendships and looked forward to frequent lunches with his former colleagues.

Dave enjoyed his camp at Eaglehead Lake with his 'second family' and dear friends.  He was always willing and ready to help anyone in need.  Dave enjoyed a challenge and loved to tinker in his garage; his most recent pleasure was building trailers. Dave volunteered and was proud to represent North McIntyre Rec Centre as a Member of the Board of Directors.  He enjoyed spending time there and looked forward to Tuesday evenings with his special 'Crib Crew'. He enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and loved watching them in their activities when he was able. He was a huge Leafs Fan and loved waking up early to go to yard sales to find that special deal.

Dave was a kind and special man, a wonderful friend to many and he will be forever missed by his beloved and caring wife of 51 years, Patricia (Andrusyk); son Kevin (Karin); daughter Karen (Walter Vicenzino), of Calgary; grandchildren Jessica, Shane, Alexander and Austin; brothers Jerry (Donna), of Dryden, and Jim (Faith), of Winnipeg; numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Monica Kennedy and his in-laws Nick and Mary Andrusyk.

As per Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Msgr. P. M. Stilla, V.G. of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, with a reception to follow.

Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will be done by the family at St. Andrew’s Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations in Dave’s memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation - Northern Cancer Fund, or the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society would be appreciated.
