It is with profound sadness that the family of Dennis F.A. Cromarty announce his sudden passing to begin his spirit journey. Dennis was born in Thunder Bay to Dennis Franklin and Helen (Barkman) Cromarty. He was the first of five children in their family.

His education began in a new daycare center in Big Trout Lake, now Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug. He attended schools in Timmins, Thunder Bay and Newmarket. He graduated from Lakeview High School and Confederation College in Thunder Bay.

Growing up he loved the outdoors and camping. He took part in many sports activities including hockey, baseball, cycling, swimming, body building, and wrestling with his friends and brothers.

As a young man, he always found work, but his life changed drastically on December 23, 2000. He was en route to Thunder Bay for a family Christmas, when a bus accident left him physically challenged and unable to continue his work as an electronics technician.

After a few years of driving a taxi, he was determined to find more active employment, and became an outdoor landscaper. When his boss retired, he was hired by a new company, and due to his reputation in the field, he brought some former clients to his new organization.

Most recently, he was employed as an assay lab technician in a mine, and he was working to overcome some setbacks with the goal of returning to work full time in the spring. He overcame challenges when he became disabled with the support of family, life-long friends, and a positive attitude.

Dennis had many loves and passions in life. He loved his nieces, and he was especially fond of teasing them. He enjoyed making spicy foods (the hotter the better!), especially chili with a variety of hot sauces, and he was always ready to barbeque.

He loved heavy metal music, and taking trips to attend concerts. He enjoyed time with family and friends, even the pandemic could not keep him down – he had socially distanced coffees with friends in the yard and online game nights. Dennis had a kind spirit, a very good sense of humour, and was very protective of those he held dear.

Survived by his mother Helen, his siblings Karen MacDougall, Isaac (Kerry), Thomas, Elliott (Alyssa), and nieces Anne, Charlotte and Piper. Also survived by his uncles Chris Cromarty (Annie) and David (Helen) Barkman, aunts Jemima Wesley, Victoria Maxwell, Bernice Matthews, Esther (Andrew) Wesley, Nellianne Cromarty and Vivian Cromarty, and numerous cousins.

Predeceased by his father Dennis Franklin Cromarty, his grandparents Isaac and Eila Cromarty, and Rev. Alex and Katie Barkman. His Cromarty uncles - Zacharias, Ezra, Joel, Donald, Morris, and Alex, and his Cromarty aunts - Ruth, Jessie, Agnes, and Lydia. His Barkman uncles John and Richard, and his Barkman aunts - Mary, Margaret, and Juliet.

Private funeral services will be held in EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Services can be viewed at everestofthunderbay.com beginning at 1:00pm on Wednesday.
