It is with heavy hearts that the Ogima family announce the sudden passing of Derek James Ogima, age 43 years, on Wednesday, August 16, 2017.
Derek was born on April 25, 1974 and grew up in Thunder Bay. He was a very sociable young man and has touched many people in his short time with us. He took great joy being in the outdoors. He worked as a firefighter for the MNR and more recently as a roofer. Anyone who knew Derek knew that he loved his family and was fiercely protective of them.
Derek is survived by his parents Georgina and Frank Ogima, his long-time girlfriend Char Robertson, brother Russell McCauley, sister Jaime Ogima, the mother of his children Dodey Harper, daughters Brytany and Nadia, son Malcolm, and granddaughter Lydia. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his grandparents Amelia and Albert McCauley, grandfather Frank Ogima Senior and brother-in-law Edward Gambee
Funeral Services for Derek will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, with Rev. Larry Kroker, s.j presiding. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service time. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

The family requests, that anyone who wishes, write down a fond memory of Derek to present to his granddaughter Lydia.
