It is with deep sadness that the family of Derek Otto Kivela, age 52, a resident of Red Lake Ontario, announce his tragic passing on Tuesday,July 9th, 2024, at the Red Lake Margaret Hospital as a result of a highway accident.

Derek was born May 1, 1972, at the Port Arthur General Hospital in Thunder Bay to Edward and Janet (Krollic) Kivela.

Derek had moved from Thunder Bay to Red Lake Ontario and in 2010 Derek started his own HVAC business, Ducts Unlimited, Derek was currently working on his fifth trade as a Mechanic with Red Lake Salvage.

Derek’s passion was always going above and beyond for his family and anyone that he had met.

Derek will forever be missed by his children Rebecca Vacca, Larissa Vacca, Alexzander Vacca- Kivela and their mother Tanya Vacca. His mother Janet Kivela, brother Geoffrey wife Lisa Guerette, his nephew Jaden. Derek is predeceased by his father Edward (July 1,2024) his grandmother Adeline and his Aunt Jackie.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on August 31, 2024, from 1pm – 4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5, 229 Van Norman Street Thunder Bay. Arrangements have been entrusted to WESTFORT FUNERAL CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Red Lake Animal rescue or any charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
