It is with broken hearts and engulfing sorrow that our family announces the irreplaceable loss and newly untethered soul of Diane Whistle. Diane was surrounded and held by Wally, the love of her life for over 62 years and their three daughters as she passed on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 2:45pm. Diane peacefully slipped away as she was listening to her one and only rock 'n' roller Bob Seger. The absence of her bewitching and wild spirit is unmatched as there is no denying that she told it like it is with little to no filter.

Diane and Wally possessed a love unlike any other and shared an inseparable journey together. The two shared a passion for travel whether it was across the globe or across the border. Diane and Wally saw it all!

One of Diane's passions was ensuring she had enough baking ready for any visitors that may have arrived, and over the years she certainly mastered her famous lemon meringue pie which was always a hit with her family and friends!

Diane had a soft spot for each of her granddaughters. Sure, she “loved” riding camels, getting soaked by dolphins, being a personal taxi driver, back to school shopping, taking them to movies together (while she’d nap), or making cherry chip cake once a week, but she would do anything for her grandchildren. She also was Santa’s chauffeur each Christmas Eve to have him visit her six granddaughters which gave her such delight... who can say they drove Santa around town on Christmas Eve for a special viewing of Santa out their front window... well Diane can!

She leaves behind to mourn her passing her most cherished and heartbroken husband Wally, daughters; Lori (Larry) Jager, Charmaine (Danny) Thompson, Leslie Whistle, granddaughters; Erica (Rob) Allan, Cara Baraniuk, Alexa (Nathan) McDuff, Danielle Thompson, Shannon Baraniuk (Mike Henderson) , Graysen Thompson, great grandchildren; Ainsley and Jax Allan along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.

Diane was pre-deceased by her mother Gertrude Smith, who was undoubtedly the first in line to welcome her only child back into her loving arms. She will also be reunited with many brothers and sisters in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins who all had a special place in her heart and contributed to the richness of her life.

We would like to sincerely thank all the staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for the phenomenal care she received, with special acknowledgement to nursing staff in 2C and Dr. Taha, Dr. Al Shamousi, her “angel” nurse Michelle in ICU, who took impeccable care of Diane, and lastly Dr. McCallum who showed such compassion for all of us, and ensured Diane was comfortable at all times.

At a later date, we will announce a gathering in her honour to celebrate her extraordinary life and share endless “funny Gramma” stories! Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

“So take those old records off the shelf, and play that old time rock 'n' roll” for her!
You will forever be in our hearts and our smiles.
We love you dearly and we'll be seeing you again one day
Love, Us
xoxo
