Donald Gordon Merriman of Den Ilp, Netherlands, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2023, with his devoted wife Mieke Hazenberg by his side.

During his last days his daughters Christine Merriman of Kelowna, BC, Catherine Merriman (Bill Whitman) of Rossfield, NS, and Carolyn van 't Hof Merriman (Patrick) of 't Harde, Netherlands, and granddaughter Claire Merriman Campbell of Kelowna, were able to visit him.

Don was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on 10 September 1939, and was the eldest son of Gordon and Jean (Hutton) Merriman. Don grew up in Fort William (Thunder Bay).

During his first marriage to Brenda Dougall, they moved to Toronto where he began a career in business and eventually became a financial planner.

Don had a lifelong passion for cars, and his successful amateur racing career culminated in multiple wins in his Lotus Formula B at Mosport and other tracks in Canada and the US.

The family moved to a farm in Puslinch Township, the site of many Christmas tree-cutting parties and corn roasts. Don and his second wife Mieke built a beautiful country home and gardens in the Netherlands where all friends and family were welcome.

Mieke and Don enjoyed golfing as part of a strong community of friends. Don's last wish to contribute to Parkinson's research, after living with the disease for nearly 15 years, allows his memory to live on.
