Donald died peacefully with his family by his side at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hospice Unit, on September 5, 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Donald was born on March 2, 1931 to Esther Gohlin and was raised by his mother and grandparents Nora and Henry Olsen on their farm in Finmark.

He and his mother moved to Beardmore and that is where he met his beautiful wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Hamilton. During the early years of their marriage, they spent time in Calgary and Geraldton and finally settled in Thunder Bay where they raised their 3 children, Donna, Darcey and Alvin.

After retiring from M.T.O., Donald was able to focus on his love of music and the great outdoors. He was a self-taught musician and enjoyed his free time playing with the Elk’s Clown Band and Thunder Country at many of the homes for the aged as well as the 55 Plus Centre.

Donald is survived by his wife Jacqueline; daughter Donna Csabak (Marian); son Darcey (Sandra); grandchildren Jennifer (Ondrej Par), Jamie, Christine, Jared and Aaron Olsen; great grandchildren Marcus and Niko Par, Brooklyn Olsen; and sister-in-law Katherine Hamilton.

Donald was sadly predeceased by his youngest son Alvin and his mother.

A private family gathering will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.
