Dr. Donald Alexander Charles "Donnie" Johnson, age 74 years, passed away in the T.B.R.H.S.C. Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Donnie was born in Port Arthur on May 1, 1935, to Alex and Marion Johnson. He grew up in Port Arthur, attending local schools before attending the University of Toronto from which he graduated in 1959. He carried on a busy and successful dental practice for many years, retiring in the late 1990’s. He served as President of the Thunder Bay Dental Association, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Port Arthur Golf and Country Club and served as Mayor of Two Island Lake. Donnie possessed a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the camp at Island Lake. His greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was very proud of all of them and kept his friends apprised of their latest activities and achievements through his colourful e-mails. He was the definition of a good and kind man and a great and true friend. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife, Jill, his children: Lorne (Linda Munro), Lynn (Dan) Burgess and Russell (Kirsten Oinonen); grandchildren: Alex, Grace, and Kaija and Seija; sister Jane Hare, mother-in-law Ina Erickson, brother-in-law John (Margaret Thompson) Erickson as well as by his niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Peter Hare and father-in-law Hans Erickson. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s United Church with Rev. Susan Ivany presiding.
