It is with heavy hearts that we regret to announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather and husband Don Manahan on Monday July 17, 2017.

Don was born June 22, 1947 to Irene and Robert Manahan in Fort William ON. From a very early age sports played a major role in his life starting with hockey as his Dad did previously. During his High School years he became involved in basketball, track and field and football, which became his passion. Upon graduation from Selkirk HS he was fortunate to play football at the University of Waterloo where he was Rookie of The Year in 1967/68 and presented with the Outstanding Athletic Career Award in 1971. His sporting passion continued to this day with rowing, curling as well as officiating and volunteering at many sporting events. He passed on his love of sport to both of his children and his grandchildren. Don also loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.

Don began his career with the Ontario Government and then moved to the City of Thunder Bay as City Planner. After 10 years in that position he ventured out on his own as a planning consultant with Manahan Planning and Consulting. This also led to his involvement with Thunder Bay Ventures.

Don also had a great love of his dogs and most recently volunteered countless hours to the Northern Reach Dog Rescue.

But above all Don’s passion was his family. He was the most dedicated, loving and dependable Husband, Father and Grandfather.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Elizabeth Manahan (nee Lang); daughter Corie Adamson (Brent) and their children Zachary and Emma; daughter Erin Manahan; brother Robert Dale Manahan (Brenda), niece Kerriann McCullough-Miller (husband Michael and daughter Ryalie), nephews Robert Manahan and Sean Manahan (Michelle Hostikka) as well as his aunt Marj Victor and a large extended family.

The family would like to thank all of the first responders and the ER department at TBRHSC. A Celebration of Don’s Life will take place at the Fort William Curling Club, Saturday July 22 2017 from 1-3 pm with words of remembrance at 2 pm. If friends desire, memorials to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
