Mrs. Doreen Bevilacqua, age 86, resident of Pioneer Ridge, peacefully surrounded by her family, on Sunday March 27, 2011, went into the hands of the Lord.

Doreen was born on Sept. 26, 1924 in Chions, Pordenone, Italy, daughter of Giovanni and Augusta Campaner, coming to Canada with her family at an early age and settling in Fort William.  She attended St. Peter's Elementary School and later graduated from Selkirk High School.

After graduation, she began working for Braunstein Furriers as a seamstress. Doreen then married her husband Alfred Bevilacqua and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Doreen was a dedicated wife and a resourceful, caring mother and grandmother. Her main interests were centered on her home and family. She enjoyed many hobbies that included sewing, knitting and gardening.

Her skills as a seamstress were well known and were matched only by her abilities in the kitchen.

She enjoyed many summers camping and berry picking with her family, fishing at Lac de Milles Lac, nurturing her grandchildren and spending many relaxing winters in Florida.

Doreen is survived by her husband Alfred, sons Dennis (Maureen), Rick (Janie), Gary (Karen) Dryden, and Tom. Grandchildren Brian, Langley B.C. (en-route), David, Calgary, Alta. (en-route), Dan, Janet Paulson (Jeff) Kenora, Scott, Dryden. Also surviving are sister Anita Colosimo, and brother Peter Campaner (Dodie), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother Louis, and brother Anibale in childhood. Doreen was a devout member of St. Dominic's Parish and the Catholic Women's League.

Visitation and prayer service will take place on Wednesday March 30, 7 p.m. at Blake Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will take place on Thursday March 31, at 11 a.m. St. Dominic's Church, 130 Redwood Ave.

If friends desire, the family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to the Alzheimer’s Society of Thunder Bay or a charity of your choice.

A tree will be planted in memory of Doreen Bevilacqua in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 10, 2012.
