Dorothy Edna Hughes (Hockridge) died on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at HRM just 2 months short of her 99th birthday.

She was born August 4, 1917 at Carlyle, SK to William and Dorothy (Hindmarch) Hockridge.  Edna grew up a farm girl, moving to Dauphin, MB where she met her beloved husband Lorne Hughes.  They lived in Hornpayne before settling in Thunder Bay (Port Arthur).

Mom dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family and lived to see the fifth generation of little ones.  She loved her family, especially the young ones, home, garden, cooking/baking, sewing, berry picking, going to camp, and going for rides in the country.

She enjoyed working into her 80s transplanting seedlings and looking after plants at her granddaughter Susan's greenhouse business. Mom also enjoyed being a "Rug Rat" creating multicoloured woven rugs at Good Shepherd Village.  She was a hard worker and passed on this work ethic to her children.

She was an adherent of the Presbyterian church and was involved in church activities in her younger days. She was a life member of The Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen Auxiliary.

Mom is survived by her children: Gwen Ferguson, Edythe Necochea (Oregon), and Garry (Mary) Hughes.  She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Robbie (Barry) Buffington, Bruce (Nikki) Ferguson, Brian Ferguson, Susan (Dennis) Trevisanutto, Scott (Julie) Ferguson, Michelle (Wade) Patton, Tim (Chantelle) Hughes, and Becky (Matt) Agar. There are 14 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister Margorie Allin and brother Garry Hockridge.

She was predeceased in 1985 by her husband Lorne, her son-in-law Bob Ferguson in December 2015, parents William and Dorothy, her sisters Olive Attwood, Lillian Stevens, and Ivy Wilson and her brothers LaVern and Orval Hockridge.

As per Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. A private family gathering and interment at Riverside Cemetery will take place at a later date. If friends desire, donations may be made to CF Canada at 1-800-378-2233 or cysticfibrosis.ca
The family would like to thank all the caregivers and support staff who made Mom's life more comfortable at Dawson Court and HRM.
