Dorothy May Oleksuk

Mrs. Dorothy May Oleksuk (Dot) passed away peacefully Monday April 4, 2016 with her family by her side. Born in Fort William May 2, 1928. She attended school in Cloud Bay. 

In 1947 she married Alex Sedor and together they had 4 children.   In 1958 after Alex passed away, she moved to Fort William with her children and went to work to support her family. 

In 1960 she married Michael (Mac) Oleksuk. They bought the Oleksuk family farm, and together they had three more children. 

Dorothy and Mac continued farming for many years.  They had a dairy farm, and later beef cattle.  Dorothy also worked as a cook and was very proud of achieving her chef’s certificate.  In addition to their seven children, they also were foster parents for over 25 years.  

Dorothy was always a very active member of the community taking part in all types of social activities.  She was very dedicated to her family and loved to fill her home with family and friends.

She is survived by her children Raymond Oleksuk (Joyce); Diane McKinnon (Steve); Brenda Laidler (Doug); Bernie Oleksuk (Frances), Michael Oleksuk (Nadine) Conrad Oleksuk; Mark Oleksuk (Leslie) Grandchildren and Great grandchildren; Twyla Oleksuk, Ryan  Danielle; Michelle Gagnon (Thane) Jessica, Jamielynn & Cole; Anita Skedgel (Ralph) Mackenzie; Clinton Laidler; Charlene Hansen (Chris) Jarryd, Cydney, Francesca; Mary-Ann Pucci (Rob) Emily, Ryan; Bernie Jr Oleksuk(Shelley) Curtis, Kaitlyn; Jamie McKinnon (Alexandra); Natasha Oleksuk (Jeff); Kyle Oleksuk, Braelynn; Joshua Oleksu; Sayshell Brown. She was predeceased by her parents, all her siblings, her first husband Alex Sedor; her husband Michael Oleksuk; grandson Jeremy Stajkowski; daughter-in-law Kennifer Oleksuk; grandson Alex Oleksuk.

Funeral Services will be held Friday April 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Barone officiating.  Interment at Cloud Bay Cemetery following reception. 

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday evening 7:00 to 9:00PM in the Blake Funeral Chapel.  If friends so desire memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Dorothy Oleksuk will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
