Doug Brady, age 68 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully after a brief illness in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 with family by his side.

Doug was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time spent with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchild, Logan.  A day of golf or a game of catch with his dogs made it a perfect day. Doug was a man who went out of his way to help anyone in need, who took pride in his garden and who was always ready to partake of Frank’s “red water”.

Doug had been employed as a truck driver for Canadian Auto Carriers and various other trucking companies.  A safety-conscious trucker, he had been awarded the ten-year safe driving award and the “Million Miles Accident-Free Award." Most recently, following retirement, he worked as a school bus driver for Iron Range.

Doug will be sadly and lovingly remembered by his wife, Gerry; sons, Terry Brady and Jim Devins; daughters, Sherri (Ed Biggar) and Susanne (Mike Meathrel); grandchildren, Eric (Alicia), Derick (Megahan), Ben, Jaimie, Drew and Danielle; great-grandson, Logan; his sister, Ruth Cole; and  brother-in-law, Bill Sawchuk.  Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.  Doug was predeceased by his parents, Bessie and Sherman Brady; brother, Donald;  mother-in-law, Teresa Sawchuk and  brother-in-law, LeeRoy Cole.

Funeral Services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Ivany.

Interment will take place in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the Service.  If friends so desire, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation - designated to  Northern Cancer Fund, or to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
