Edgar Peter Davey died peacefully, with his family by his side, on March 18, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital-Hospice in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was born in Sudbury, Ontario on April 21, 1951, to Betty (Austin) and James Davey.

Edgar is survived by his partner Olga, daughter Lauren (Bao Ong), grandson Jake, Victoria B.C., Lauren’s mother Colleen, Thunder Bay, brother Bruce (Mary), Kentville, Nova Scotia, sister-in-law Jane Davey, Sudbury, nieces Kate (Andrew), Montreal, Katy (Blair), Sudbury, and nephews Geoff (Sophie) Toronto, Jamie (Cheryl), Utterson, and Taylor (Taunya) Sudbury, grandnieces Maggie, Chloe and grandnephews Jack, Henry and George, and Brandon, Olga’s children Doosie, Tamara, Nevada (Herp), and Josepha (John), and grandchildren Jett, John aka Clarence, Vienna and Jessie. Edgar was predeceased by his parents, and brother Austin Davey.

After graduating from Carleton University, Ottawa, his career as a Chartered Accountant, and Vice President, Manroc Developments Inc., took him to Thunder Bay, Geraldton, Ghana, Peru, and Guatemala. Raised with a passion for the outdoors, Edgar had adventures throughout his life, both on the water and in the air. The purchase of his ‘mistake on the lake’ evolved over the years as a labour of love into a beautiful home with a Piper Cub at the dock. Friends and family were always welcome, and anyone brave enough was treated to a ride in the sky. His favorite co-pilots were always Jett and Jake. From accountancy to construction to aviation Edgar was skilled at anything he set his mind to.

Edgar was a guy with style, he liked his shirts with collars and his pants with pleats unless he was ice fishing, paddling a canoe or flying his plane. On annual fishing trips with his brothers, Edgar, always the gracious host made sure the apartment above the garage was stocked with the Globe and Mail for Austin and organic peanut butter for Bruce.

His pride and joy was Lauren. He was continually in awe of her academic achievements, but more importantly, he loved her for the beautiful person she is, daughter, wife, and mother of ‘my grandson’ Jake.

Anyone who knew Edgar will remember him for his fierce loyalty to family, the twinkle in his eye, his beautiful smile, his wonderful laugh and above all, his kindness and generosity.

The family would like to thank Dr. Simpson, Dr. Ward, Dr. Hummel, and the nurses at the hospice, as well as their special friend Shirley, for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Edgar. Thanks also to special friend and colleague Don Simoneau.

If you wish to donate in Edgar’s memory, please consider the St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay – Hospice Unit, or a charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place, and a family celebration of his life will be in Sudbury during the summer.
