Edith Irene Black, aged 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Southbridge Pinewood.

Edith attended the Little Red School House in Lash, high school in Fort Frances, then moved to Fort William seeking employment. She worked several jobs through the years. Many years at The Times Journal and Supervisor of Office and Concessions at the Fort William Gardens for the City of Thunder Bay.

As a mature student, she entered Lakehead University obtaining her BA and BEd to become an elementary teacher for the Lakehead Public Board of Education, a dream she had as a young girl. She retired from Crestview Elementary School after teaching for 20 years. She was a very talented and crafty lady who could turn her hand to many things and operated a ceramic business for 20 years.

Edith is survived by her daughter Deryle Bond (Bruce); grandchildren Scott Bond (Michelle), Bradley Bond (Jennifer), Harold Black, Brian Black (Janine) and Chad Black (Wendy); great grandchildren Carver Bond, Gibson Bond, Elizabeth Black, Sarah Jane Black, Peyton and Devon Black; sister Doraleen Gosling and nieces and nephews.

Edith was predeceased by her parents Mabel and Arthur Fisher; son W. Dennis Black; daughter-in-law Jean Black; sister Mary Mathieson; brothers Ray Fisher and Eddis Fisher; sister-in-law Emily Fisher and brothers-in-law Bill Mathieson and Allan Gosling.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will follow at a later date.
