Our mom died on March 14, 2018. In a few weeks, she would have been 96 years old. It was a sad day, but in a way, a relief. A relief for us so that we would no longer have to see her live in a way that just wasn’t her.

For the last 6 years, she lived at Roseview Manor and it was really hard to watch her progressively decline in health. On the 10th she suffered a stroke which led to her death just days later.

She outlived our dad, Urho “Yorky” Leino, who died almost 20 years ago. She also outlived her 3 younger brothers Edward, Eino and Walter Ranta.
Her parents were Heikki and Hilja Ranta.

She leaves behind us, her children; Ray and his wife Virginia; David and his wife Greta with granddaughters April and Amanda; Millie and her husband Peter Killer with grandson Ron, his wife Jessica and great-granddaughter Kelsey, and with granddaughter Leanne and great-grandson Jaden; and Joy Sundell with grandson Randy Jr., his wife Kristin and great-grandchildren Danika and Lukas. She also leaves behind many of our cousins and one aunt, Dorothy Ranta. A few old-time friends, previous Erle Street neighbours, and many dear friends in her faith also remain who will no doubt prefer to remember our mom as she used to be, before the onset of dementia.

We are grateful she lived a long life, compared to most. To us, she was a good mom.

There will be no funeral.
