It is with a broken heart that the family of Ed Caban, age 72 years, announces his passing after battling lung cancer for the past seven months. He passed peacefully with family by his side.

Ed was born to Anne and John Caban on January 20, 1946 in Port Arthur, Ontario. He grew up in the Jumbo Gardens area and attended Jumbo Gardens School and Hammarskjold High School.

After various jobs at an early age, he followed in his father’s footsteps and became a truck driver. Ed owned and operated Ed Caban Truckin’ for the past 40 years making many friends along the way. After a lot of soul searching, he sold his truck, retiring in the summer of 2017.
Ed enjoyed his coffee time at Agostino’s Robin’s catching up on the latest news with his friends.

Ed is survived by his wife, Mary (Siddall-Caban); nieces Rhonda Welsh, Burnaby, BC; Donna Doi, Hong Kong; nephews Rob (Sandy), Rick, Ron (Nicole) Vanderwey, Kevin Koski, Thunder Bay; Dereck (Sandra) Doi and Wayne Doi, Olds, AB; and great nephews Nick, Walker, Mitchell and Brayden Vanderwey, Thunder Bay. He is also survived by his fur baby and faithful companion, Mitzi.

He was predeceased by his parents, stepfather Bill Woods, sisters Verlene Vanderwey, Lorayne Doi, Joyce Wakefield; brothers-in-law Harry Vanderwey, Fred Doi and Stan Wakefield.

As per Ed’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private interment will be held at a later date for family and close friends. Should friends so desire, donations to the Northern Cancer Fund or Thunder Bay and District Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
