Edward (Eddie) Fedori, age 100 years and 9 months, a truly gentle man and a gentleman, passed away peacefully November 17, 2018 at Pinewood Court, with family by his side and his loving wife Stella holding his hand.
One of 5 siblings, Eddie grew up in the East End of Thunder Bay. He spent his entire working career as a machinist at Canada Car (Bombardier). He remained a bachelor until 1966 when he married his “beautiful doll” Stella Duchnicky, at that time a widow, at whose first wedding 21 years earlier, Eddie had actually been best man. Stella and Eddie’s union was destined to be. Last July, they celebrated 52 years of happiness together.
Eddie’s life was a full one. He and Stella travelled together extensively, vacationing in Florida, Arizona, Spain, the Ukraine, and spending several months of 20 consecutive winters in Hawaii. In his younger years, Eddie was an active athlete, excelling in bowling, golf and baseball. In fact, he still treasured a baseball signed by all his teammates from a championship game in 1938!
As well, Eddie’s Ukrainian heritage, his church and his faith were of paramount importance to him. He was a charter member of St. George’s Society (Church of the Holy Cross) and worked tirelessly, volunteering in all their endeavours. (He was even a champion “pincher” of pyroghies.) He loved to sing and was a proud member for decades of both the Prosvita and church choirs.
A bachelor into his late 40’s, Eddie never dreamed he’d have a young family, so his 3 grandsons were a constant source of surprise and joy for him. He followed all their activities, spending hours in gyms watching basketball and volleyball games and on the sidelines of football fields, sometimes in freezing weather, bundled in his fur coat and hat, cheering them on. And then, in later years, along came 6 great grandkids with whom to build forts and toss around balls and share hugs. He was a happy Gigi.
Eddie was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Elizabeth Fedori, his brothers Zion and Ronnie Fedori, and his sisters Helen Lysak and Frances Brescasin. He will always be lovingly remembered by his wife Stella; his daughter and son-in-law Pat and Myron Warywoda; his grandsons and their wives: Mark and Winnie Warywoda, Peter and Michelle Warywoda, and David Warywoda; and 6 beautiful great grandchildren: Jake, Lauryn, Noel, Meagan, Lynden and Tristan. As well, numerous nieces and nephews lovingly remember him and times shared with him.
Everybody couldn’t help but love Eddie. Even in his advanced years when he became afflicted with dementia, Eddie always had a wonderful, positive attitude to life. If you asked him, “How are you doing today”, his answer was always a beaming smile and “Tip top! Not bad for an old man!”
Eddie was gentle. He was sweet. He was kind. He was loved.
Funeral services for the late Eddie Fedori will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 10:30 at the Church of the Holy Cross, 415 W. Victoria Ave. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Stepan Didur. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Should friends desire to remember this lovely man, donations to the Church of the Holy Cross or to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Please honour the kind of man Eddie was simply by doing a good deed today.
Eddie Fedori will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
