Edward Neill
Mr. Edward Victor Neill, age 83, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, October 24th, 2021, at St. Joseph's Hospital (Hospice Unit).

Ed was born August 16, 1938 in Port Arthur, Ontario to Thomas and Annie Neill. He received his education at Pine Street Public School and Port Arthur Technical and Vocational High School (current Hillcrest High School). After high school he went to trade school in Toronto and became a Body and Fender Mechanic. Upon receiving his trade ticket Ed went to work at Laine & Fairbairn, Gibson Motors, and the Lakehead Board of Education. He then moved to the City of Thunder Bay - Transit Department where he worked in the Barns repairing our City buses until his retirement in 1999. His biggest claim to fame was restoring the Brill Buses with his other transit friends. He was so very proud of their accomplishment.

Throughout Ed's retirement he loved to tinker in his garage. If he wasn't making wooden baskets, you could find him making his famous stools with the Twoonie in the middle of it or making toys for his grandchildren.

Ed was instrumental in starting the Fix-It Club at the 55+ Centre.

On June 29, 1963, Ed married Kathleen (Kitty) Cunningham. Together they had three children Jane (Jim) Greshuk, Robert (Jennifer) and Kathy (Jay Etheridge). His three children blessed him with five grandchildren.

Kitty passed away in 2005. In 2006, Ed met Patricia Halvorson. Together they enjoyed 16 great years going on trips and seeing the world.

Predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Kitty), parents Thomas and Annie, and sister and brother-in-law Maureen and Ken Sim, brother & sister-in-law Tommy & June Neill, parents-in-law Robert & Phyllis Cunningham along with brothers-in-law David Dufault and Frank Cupello.

Ed is survived by his partner Patricia Halvorson, daughter Jane (Jim) Greshuk, son Robert (Jennifer) and daughter Kathy Neill (Jay Etheridge). He will also be remembered by his five grandchildren Sharon, Diane (Jesse) Haveman, Neil (Breanna Bresolin), Ashley & Connor Neill, two step grandchildren Michael (Stevie) their son Dax, and Cameron Mcinnis (Melissa). He is also survived by sisters-in-law Margaret Cupello and Barbara Dufault and brother-in-law Leonard (Jane Anne) Cunningham, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors on 2A at the TBRHSC for their exceptional care. Also we thank the Hospice nurses Angela, Paul, Laura and Clara and Hospice Doctors Migay, Simpson, Ward and Feldstein for their care and compassion for Ed. (our special dad).

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at Harbourview Funeral Centre on Saturday, October 30th, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with Words of Tribute being offered at 11:30 a.m.

If friends so desire donations may be made to St. Joseph's Hospice.
