Effie Stokaluk

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Effie Stokaluk (nee Hobischak) on Monday, May 2, 2022, peacefully in Southbridge Pinewood Court, at age 87.

Born on July 19, 1934 to Nicholas and Katie Hobischak, in Saskatchewan, Effie and her family found their way to Fort William in 1941. It was there she met her life-long love, Emil Stokaluk and the two were married on November 22, 1952.

With their young family, the two set out to Terrace Bay for a few years to run the Golf Course. Emil on the course, and Effie the friendly face behind the Clubhouse. Eventually, the family made their way back to Fort William where Effie began her studies to become a nurse. Effie graduated in 1967 and worked as an RN on the Paediatric Ward at Port Arthur General until she retired.

Effie is survived by her four children, Richard (Martha), Danny (Rosie), Cathy Pak (Wayne), Lorraine; grandchildren Jaclyn Pretto (Luke), Craig (Joanne), Lisa Stokaluk-Bartnik (Tom), Danny Jr, Katie Pak-Vaillant (Pat), Taylor Onski; 3 great-grandchildren Carter and Kolby Vaillant and Penelope Pretto. She is also survived by her sister Irene Kozak and brother Ray Hobischak, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Emil; her parents Nicholas and Katie Hobischak; brother Beven Hobischak and grandson Darryl Pak.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Ruby, nurses and personal support workers of the Sandpiper Ward at Southbridge Pinewood for their excellent care during this time and for their kindness and compassion.

A private family interment for both Effie and Emil will be held in Mountainview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.
