ELEANOR MARTIN
April 6, 1938 – Dec 20, 2016

It is with unbelievable sadness that we share that ELEANOR MARTIN, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after a brief illness.

Born in Fort William, April 6th, 1938 to parents Andrew & Mary Markevich. She married Al (Elio) Martin, May 9, 1959 and has been his rock for the past 57 years.

Eleanor worked for the Thunder Bay Separate (Catholic) School Board as a secretary and retired in June 1995 after 23 years of service. Mom was an active member of the St. Agnes Church CWL, (Catholic Women’s League), in which she took pride in assisting her team members in any way she could.

Mom’s greatest family tradition was the Sunday spaghetti dinners and we all knew that we had better show up on time and be ready to eat!  She often opened her family dinners to many friends and family members and always made sure there was enough food to go around.

Mom had a special bond with all of Rick & Donna’s childhood, teenage and adult friends and she treated each of these friends as if they were her own by ensuring they had food to eat, providing them with life tips and even giving them the odd hair style or two.

All of Rick & Donna’s friends were truly loved by Eleanor.

Eleanor is survived by her loving husband Al (Elio) Martin, her son Rick and daughter Donna (Brent Churylo, Regina SK), grandchildren Derek (fiancé Alex Howie), Ryan (Kiley Piccolo), Shaelynn (Regina, SK) and Chad (Regina SK).  She is also survived by her sister Dolores (Stan Werbowetski), brothers John (Cathy), Andy (Debbie Elora, Ontario), brother-in-law Willie Mikus (Staten Island NY), sister-in-law Gladys Martin and her “little sister” Dolores (Doli) Martin.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews across Canada and the USA.

Eleanor was predeceased by her parents Andrew & Mary Markevich, mother and father-in-law, Alfred and Antoinetta Martin, sister Marlene (Cookie) Mikus (Staten Island NY) and brother-in-law Dino Martin. Please join us in a celebration of Eleanor’s life on Wednesday December 28, 2016, 12:10 at St. Agnes Church celebrated by Rev. Jerin Louis.  Internment will be at a later date. Donations can be made to the Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centre or a charity of your choice.

Eleanor Martin will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
