It is with heavy hearts the family of Elena Minelli announce her peaceful passing Monday, September 11, 2017, at the age of 93 years, with her family by her side at home.

Elena was born in Gubbio Italy on November 15, 1924. In 1955 Elena came to Canada with her two young sons, Frank and Joseph, to be reunited with her husband Albert who came 3 years prior in search of a better life for his family in Atikokan. When her husband passed away in 1960 she then moved to Fort William. The most important aspect of Elena’s move was to make a better life for her 2 sons. Elena was a woman who enjoyed cooking for her friends and family, a good game of cards, a few drinks of wine, a good cup of espresso and her world famous lemon pie and her cold cake, shared with family friends.

Known to so many as Nona. She touched their hearts and made lasting memories with everyone she knew. She was a fun and out going woman and was up for anything as long as it involved being with the people she loved. Nona’s pride and joy were all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
