Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Lily Gilbert, age 83 years, passed away peacefully with family by her side, on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in St. Joseph's Hospice, after a short battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

Betty was born in Alcona, Ontario on August 3, 1933 in the railway station. She married William John (Jack) Gilbert in 1953 and together, they raised their family. Betty worked at Brown's Tourist Camp, Eaton's and most recently at Laura Secord, for 21 years, until retirement in 2000. Some of Betty's favourite activities included camping, fishing, hunting and picking blueberries. She especially enjoyed going with her beloved grandchildren for many outings every year.

Betty assisted the Wesley Collection for many years, and was a member of the Westfort Bowling League. She was a longtime member of St. John's Ambulance, since 1983. Betty went to Ottawa in 1989 to receive the “Serving Sister Award”, and became an officer in 1993. She loved volunteering at weekly Stock Car Racing at Riverview and being a member of the Ladies Auxillary.

Betty will be greatly missed by her husband, Jack; children Gary and Tara (Don); grandchildren Brendan (Brittany), Bailey and Morgan Rea; sisters Mary Germain and Anna Jensen. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

She was predeceased by her parents, Catherine and Konstantin Kostyniuk.

There will be a private family interment in Stanley Hill Cemetery. A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 3:00 until 5:30 pm at the St. John Ambulance Building on Fort William Road.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Betty to St. John Ambulance or the Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
