Elizabeth Letwin died peacefully on November 22, 2018 at the age of 103. A resident of Forest Hill Long Term Care Centre in Ottawa, she was born and married in Northern Valley, Alberta.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harry Letwin of Ottawa, ON, her son Allan Henry Letwin and her daughter Susanna Letwin, her parents Anna (nee Stetsko) and Mykyta Palinka, sisters Lena (Ed) Chessick, Minnie (Johnny) Yantus, Mary (Mike) Kiefuik, Anne (Willie Leaf) and brothers Matt Palinka, William (Stella) Plinka, John (Ann) Palinka, Harry (Anne) Palinka, Nick (Catherine) Palinka, Peter (Jennie) Palinka and Mike (Lillian) Palinka.
Elizabeth moved from Derwent, AB in 1952 with her family to Fort William, ON (now Thunder Bay) and lived there until 1975. She and her husband and children were active members of the Ukrainian Catholic parishes of Transfiguration and Holy Cross for many years. Elizabeth and her husband Harry retired to Kelowna, BC in 1975. After her husband’s passing, Elizabeth move to Edmonton, AB and lived there for 10 years. She then moved to Ottawa in 1995 to live with her daughter Susanne.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 when family and friends will gather for Liturgy in Blake Funeral Chapel at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Stepan Didur. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. No flowers please. Donations in her memory may be made to St John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
