Elizabeth Stokaluk passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2015 with her daughters by her side.  Elizabeth was born on August 9, 1930 to parents Mary and Micheal Babiak and grew up in Fort William with her sister Anne and brothers John and Billy.

She began working at the age of 14 at McKellar Hospital in effort to support her family during the war. She then went on to work at the Brodie Street Library and later in the payroll department for the Lakehead Board of Education.

In 1950, Elizabeth met John Stokaluk and the two were married on February 17, 1951. They built their home on Harold Street (now Hartland) in Port Arthur and had three daughters, Lynda, Carol and Mary. Elizabeth gained a son in-law in 1990, Ken Dowhaniuk, who she thought got better looking every day.

When she turned 65 she became a Grandmother with the arrival of granddaughter Lauren and a few years later, her grandson Brandon was born. Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed many pleasant days with their grandchildren in their early years, accompanied by their dog Sparky.

Elizabeth resided at the family home until suffering a stroke last summer. After this, Elizabeth moved to Bethammi Nursing home and was provided with the most exceptional, loving care by Deanna, Raeanne, Valerie and the rest of the wonderful staff up until her passing.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, sister Anne and daughter Mary.

As per Elizabeth’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. A private interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

If friends so desire, donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to Bethammi Nursing Home.
