Ellwood Gerald (Rudy) Hanson
It is with very heavy hearts that the children of Ellwood Gerald (Rudy) Hanson announce his sudden passing on December 25, 2020 at his home at 330 Lillie Street North in Thunder Bay.

Born in Huntoon, Saskatchewan on February 18, 1928, Ellwood came to Fort William in 1948 and worked for Manitoba Pool Grain Elevators for 45 years until his retirement in 1993. Along with his mother, brothers and sisters, Ellwood was a dedicated chronicler and storyteller of the Hanson family history, and dearly loved the family reunions that had been held for decades. He loved his friends, his church, gardening, music, cooking and baking, crossword puzzles, Jeopardy and a good game of cribbage.

He was predeceased by Lois (nee McMahon), his wife of 55 years in June 2009, as well as his parents Olaf (1933) and Annie (1994), sisters Edith (Thunder Bay), Lois (Weyburn, Saskatchewan), and his brothers Leonard (Ottawa), and Alan (Regina, Saskatchewan).

He is survived by his son Murray (Robin) of Winnipeg, daughter Beth (Zandée) and grandson Arden of Port Hope, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date at Mountainview Cemetery, where he will be interred beside his beloved Lois. In lieu of flowers, Beth and Murray ask that donations be made in Ellwood's memory to: Canadian Lupus Foundation; Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation; St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

Beth and Murray want to thank all of the Sister Leila Greco Apartments staff for their attentive care of Ellwood during his residence there.
