Mrs. Emilia Marozzo, age 94, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2021 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hospice Unit.

Emilia was born March 11, 1927 in Rovito, Italy. She immigrated to Canada in June 1961 with her two small children to be reunited with her husband, Giulio. Like so many others she made the long journey from Naples to Halifax to begin her new life in what was known then as Port Arthur. She didn’t waste any time in securing work outside the home in housekeeping in various hotels throughout the city. During this time she made many lasting friendships. She also worked hard to take care of her family in which she instilled the many facets of her Italian culture. She loved to entertain and cook, not only for her family and friends, but also for her neighbours; and you never left her home hungry or empty handed.

She also enjoyed gardening and spent many hours in her flower and vegetable garden. If you were to drive by her house on a hot day you would find Emilia bent down trimming her grass with a pair of scissors. She had the best kept lawn in the neighbourhood. She loved animals especially her two dogs, Lucy and Sparky. She also enjoyed going across the border to gamble her pennies at the casino.

Family was the most important focus of her life. Emilia will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Rose (Errol), son Gino (Geraldine) Abbotsford, B. C., niece Terri (Don), and grandniece, Justine (Jason) England. She was predeceased by her parents, Theresa and Salvatore Litrenta, her loving husband, Giulio, of 58 years, her brothers Mario (Carmela) and Vincent (Josephine) Litrenta.

Due to the current covid-19 gathering restrictions a private family service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4th at Sunset Memorial Gardens presided by Rev. Ciaran Donnelly. In lieu of flowers donations in Emilia’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
