Mrs. Emilia Trafny, age 90 years, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital on Wednesday, May 31, 2017.

Born February 7, 1927 in Koniuchy, Poland at the young age of 15 she was forced to leave her family behind to work at a German labour camp finally immigrating to Canada in 1948.  She worked at the Shoreline Motor Hotel as a short-order cook for twenty-one years.  Emilia will be fondly remembered for her love of cooking - in particular, traditional Polish meals, gardening and her love of flowers.  She made countless dozens of perogies and cabbage rolls for her family and friends to enjoy.  Her main interests were family, Emilia especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Emilia is survived by her two daughters: Theresa (Clifford) Paul, and Jane (Len) Langen; four grandchildren: Leana (Tyler) Moffitt of Fort Frances, Cliff (Angie) Paul of Mississauga, Michael (Jolene) Langen and Jason (Jennifer) Langen, of Thunder Bay; eight great-grandchildren: Erika and Cassandra Moffitt, Alysha and Justin Paul, Henrik and Leni Langen, Eva and Evan Langen; three sisters and one brother in the Ukraine.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews in Poland and the Ukraine.  She was predeceased by her husband Mieczyslaw (Mike) in 1976.  

The family would like to extend their special thanks to the nurses at 5 South – St. Joseph’s Hospital, especially Renee, Conrad and Sean for the excellent care provided to our mother over the last two months.

Funeral Services for Emilia will be held on Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 in the Chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, to begin at 12:30 p.m. with Msgr. P.M. Stilla, V.G. officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.  As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Emilia's memory to the Diabetes Health Thunder Bay or the Northern Cancer Research Centre.
