Emily Jean Poulin (Dyc), a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in the hospital with her family by her side, on March 15, 2010 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

Emily was born in Port Arthur on February 13, 1943, and attended Hillcrest High School. She held office positions with St. Joseph’s General Hospital up until her retirement in 2003, and previously worked at the Port Arthur Shipyards, the Canadian Cancer Society, Lakehead Freightways, and McKevitt Trucking.

Family was at the center of Emily’s life. She enjoyed life and showed great love for her children and grandchildren, providing guidance and inspiring them. Emily was always there when they needed her. She lived life with a sense of humour, a sense of fairness and loving enthusiasm. Emily was a gentle woman with a big heart. In facing life’s adversities, she saw the glass half full and believed that tomorrow would be a better day. She was an inspiration to other as she faced health challenges over the past year. She lived life with grace and purpose. Emily truly touched everyone around her. Her patience, understanding and unconditional love sustained family. She treasured family gatherings and made everyone feel loved and welcome. Emily was an excellent cook who took great joy in preparing wonderful meals, ensuring there was more than enough food for everyone.

Emily was an active parishioner at St. George’s Anglican Church, having served actively on a number of committees, the choir, and the ACW. She was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 947 and the Antique Car Club, where she met and enjoyed the company of numerous friends. Her yard, full of beautiful flowers and fruit trees, showed her love of gardening. She had a passion for photography, and enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends, as well as "Birthday Club" celebrations.

Emily will be lovingly remembered by her husband Tim Poulin, children: Lorne (Tina) Poulin, Dennis (Corrie) Poulin and Pamela (Michael) Parisien. She will be sadly missed by her cherished grandchildren: Devin and Colten Poulin, Kaylee and Kristopher Poulin, and Nicole Parisien. She will also be missed by her loving mother Mary Kopansky; sisters: Elizabeth Kashur, Patricia (Dave) Specht, and Theresa (Tim) Ostrum; brothers: Andrew (Mary) Dyc, and George (Laurie) Kopanski; sisters-in-law: Evelyn (Tom) Craig, Mae (Cyril) Higgs, Verna Lemieux, and Barbra (Guy) Larmond. Aunts; numerous cousins; nieces; nephews and other relatives will also miss her presence. Emily was predeceased by her father Peter Dyc and step-father Michael Kopansky; brothers-in-law: Alec, Donald, Charles, Norman, Kenneth and Albert Poulin and sisters-in-law: Audrey McCartney Groves, Kay Etherington, Doris Almos and Vivian Erickson.

Funeral Services for the late Emily Poulin will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19th, 2010 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Archdeacon Mark Conliffe of St. George the Martyr Anglican Church. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Emily’s memory to the charity of their choice.

The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks to the Oncology Physician and staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and the Cancer Centres.
