Emma Rucchetto, born on April 12, 1939 died peacefully on July 2, 2021 with her daughter Giulia by her side.
Emma was born in Marano Marchesato to Giuseppe Marino and Luisa Tenuta. She married Antonio Rucchetto on February 24, 1961. They were married for 42 years until Antonio passed in 2003. Emma and Antonio raised two daughters, Angelina and Giulia.
Emma will be remembered for her generosity and kindness to family, friends and neighbours, who were treated to the fruits of her garden, as well as her baked goods which she delighted in making.
After coming to Canada in 1965 and settling in Thunder Bay Emma started working at T-Kay's Jean Factory. She later moved to St. Joseph's Hospital in the housekeeping department, retiring after many years of service.
Emma is survived by her daughters Angelina (Paul) and Giulia, grandchildren Amanda Weedmark, Emily Weedmark, Michael Weedmark, Marissa Dokuchie and Bronsson Dokuchie. Emma also leaves behind a sister in Australia, Maria Chiapetta, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy and the USA. Her closest surviving family members are Antonietta Barca, nephews and nieces Michael and Anna Barca and family, James and Judie Barca, Mario Barca and family, Mary and Nok Ratana-Rueangsri and family, and Amelia Osadec and family.
Emma was predeceased by her twin sister in infancy, her son Michele at birth, parents and in-laws, two brothers and a sister, her brother-in-law Serafino, her nephew Frank, and her husband Antonio.
Emma was a member of the Italian hall women's league as well as the CWL through St. Anthony's Church. She enjoyed and looked forward to helping in the kitchen, preparing meals for socials held at the church. She loved going to bingo on Tuesdays where she could socialize and enjoy the camaraderie created.
Visitation for friends will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in St. Anthony’s R. C. Church. A private Funeral Mass and Interment will follow.
