It is with broken hearts that the family of Enid Patricia Alderdice announces her unexpected passing on October 21, 2022 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center, at the age of 96, surrounded by her loved ones.

Enid was born on April 22, 1926, to Robert (Dick) and Alice (Smith) Ditmars in the city of Fort William, at McKellar Hospital. She began her school journey at Isabella Street School until the family moved out to the village of Kakabeka Falls in 1934 where she attended Kakabeka Falls Public School. She also attended Fort William Collegiate Institute and later Fort William Business College, which led to her career with Oliver Township and finally at the Thunder Bay Forest Nursery Office.

On October 30, 1945, Enid married the love of her life, Jack Alderdice, and the rest is history. They had three children, built their lifelong home in Kakabeka Falls, and shared countless adventures together over 66 years. They could often be seen heading out to Mountain Lake, off RV’ing with the Good Sam’s Club, attending many major curling events and exploring the world together. They were true soul mates and made every minute together count.

Enid was a very active member in the community and her social calendar was often booked solid. She took pride in being a lifelong member of the Kakabeka Falls Curling Club, a member of the Rural 60 Plus Club, a charter member of the Sleeping Giant Good Sam’s Club and was recently recognised by the TOPS organization for being a long-standing member since 1969. She was also very proud to be a member of First Central United and for years organized teas and bazars to help support the church. Her weekly meetings for knitting and treats was time she treasured with her friends.

Family was everything to Mom and her whole world centered around them, they were her pride and joy. Traditions of Christmas dinners, family reunions, and birthday phone calls were just a few of the things she did to make sure her family felt loved and supported. She was our biggest cheerleader and made sure she never missed a baseball or hockey game, a school play, dance recital or graduation. She was so proud of everything we did and couldn’t wait to tell anyone who would listen.

Mom will be deeply missed by sons David (Violet), Rob (Debbie) and daughter Jane. She was a devoted Grandma to Tammy (Marc), Becky (Corey), Tyler (Crystal), TeeJay (Jenna), Dani (Matt) and Dustin (Larissa). She held the distinguished title of GG to 14 great grandchildren. Bryce, Davin, Dezee, Jadyn, Cooper, Griffin, Jax, Piper, Paige, Cam, Grace, Dallas, Bauer and Mykhailo. She is also survived by brother Guy (Vi), sister-in-law Blondie, sisters Kelly and Sharon and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Enid was predeceased by her husband Jack (2012), parents Dick and Alice Ditmars, step mother Jean Ditmars, sister and brother in law Ginny and Andy Niro, brothers Lloyd, Terry and Clyde, mother and father in law Mary Jane and William Alderdice, sisters in law Madge Graham and Mildred Alderdice, step brother Brian Goddard, son in law Warren Malinoski and grandson John Malinoski.

Family and friends are invited to Pinegrove United Church (100 HWY 130, Rosslyn) November 6, 2022 at 1pm for a church service. Those unable to attend, live streaming will be available at www.tbayunitedmedia.ca. A celebration of life and luncheon will follow at the Kakabeka Legion (4556 HWY 11-17) beginning at 2:30pm.

If you so wish, donations can be made to the Rural Cupboard Food Bank, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Thunder Bay Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
